According to Dr. Tod Cahill, a well established chiropractor who is currently living and working in Dubai, the most frequent diagnosis and causes of upper limb pain are:
- Tennis elbow/ tendonitis— the tennis elbow syndrome or as doctors often call it “lateral epicondylitis” is the result of gradual deterioration of the tendons in your forearm. This condition can be extremely painful and seriously affect your ability to complete routine tasks.
- Malfunction of the rotator cuff — the rotator cuff consists of four muscles and their tendons whose role is to support the shoulder and control its movement. Sports related injuries that usually cause damage in this area by default because paralyzing pain. Without any exaggeration shoulder joint pain can be so overwhelming some patients lose their consciousness for a while.
- Brachial plexus and brachial plexopathy — another very common cause of shoulder, arm and hand pain is the so called brachial plexopathy. Doctors describe it as paralyzing pain and weakness that happens as a result of unnaturally strong pressure on the brachial plexus, a group of nerves that spread from the neck to the arms. It can make the movement of the neck or arm unbearably painful.
- Median nerve compression — As every experienced arm chiropractor, Dr. Tod Cahill confirms that carpal tunnel syndrome or the compression of the median nerve is one of the most common causes of chronic arm and hand pain. Among other symptoms: numbness, tingling and overall weakness in hand and fingers.
- Carpal tunnel syndrome – median nerve compression, is a condition that causes numbness, tingling, or weakness in your hand. It happens because of pressure on your median nerve, which runs the length of your arm, goes through a passage in your wrist called the carpal tunnel, and ends in your hand. The median controls the movement and feeling of your thumb and the movement of all your fingers except your pinky.
- Postures – The number one current cause of issues of shoulder pain is the day to day activities creating, shoulder impingement, tendonitis and bursitis, these activities include forward head and shoulder posture when using phones and computers. This posture can cause all the previous discussed conditions.
